With the upcoming referendum on the Eighth Amendment in 2018, The National Women’s Council of Ireland (NWCI) has been holding very successful and popular information session followed by constructive, facilitated conversations with people from all walks of life across the country about abortion, pregnancy care, the Eighth Amendment and its implications. 

The conversation takes the form of a facilitated discussion that lasts about 2.5 hours. It is an informal space, specifically aimed at people who have not had an opportunity to speak about reproductive health, abortion or the Eighth Amendment with others, who wish to be able to discuss and ask questions about it in a non-judgemental, informative environment.

The conversation is facilitated by an independent facilitator. 

While they will explain NWCI’s position, which favours a removal of the Eighth Amendment, the conversation is non-directive and does not ‘tell’ people what to think. This is a chance to find out the facts, and the discuss the hard questions within the safety of a facilitated discussion.
